I have a Polaris 800xp and recently bought a plow system for it. We have a long drive that is steep in a couple areas and those areas often freeze. I considered getting a set of chains for the rear to increase traction for pushing snow. Just curious if anyone here has some experience with chains on their units (good or bad).

The dealer recomends the polaris brand four link with v-bar cross pieces. This type chain has worked well for me on both my truck and tractor. My concern is the clearance between my tires and the shocks (set to the outer position). Dosen't appear to have enough room on the inside of the tires.

Any thoughts, ideas or experiences to share?

Thanks, Diamondback

I've got super studded diamond ice chains....I can go in 2 wheel drive places I couldn't get in 4WD with ease before....they made my RTV 500 a force to be reckoned with for plowing.

The big advantage of that style chain is that there is always chain in contact with the ground and the studs make an unreal difference.

My brother put together a pair of 4 link chains (from an old garden tractor set) for the back of his Kawasaki Mule. They work well, I imagine a better set would make a huge difference.

DB-don't buy a set of chains. If you will PM me and you live nearby I will give you mine. They are almost brand new.

I have a pair of V-bar chains I use on the rear of a XUV 620i. I usually put them on in March and April when the snow is wet and slippery, or for the really big dumps. Makes a big difference, I like them.

I sure could have used chains on my 825i with our recent wet slippery turned to inch thick ice. I managed to get around, but not without a lot of slip sliding away. I see the Op Manual states chains not approved for our respective models - what's that about?

I bought a pair/set of chains years ago. I use one chain on a rear tire of my RTV and I use the other on the rear tire of a honda foreman 4x4. Works great for just getting around in snow and on ice.... and only need to put one chain on per vehicle.
