Anybody use "NoMowGrass" for lawn grass seed?

I've got 3 lawns (separate by miles) which get VERY light usage, total area maybe 1/2 acre. All in the moist, grass growing Southeast.

I don't like to mow.

I'm looking into a low maintenance lawn grass solution. Rocks, dirt, asphalt, etc. are not viable solutions.

Mowing is a pain because I'm often gone for months and some of the grasses put up a seed stalk about 1 foot high.

Premium NoMowGrass the Low Cost Low Maintenance Lawn Grass sells a grass seed mix called NoMow supposed to only grow to 3" to 6", $50 for 2 lbs. $100 for 5lbs.

I just bought some Rebel Tall Fescue at HD for about $4.50/lb for an immediate patch of a small area, so those prices don't seem WAY out of line. But I don't want to pay $20/lb when I could pay $2.50/lb for Rebel in a 20lb bag.

Can any TNN'ers comment on the NoMowGrass or the No Mow Lawn products?

Where will you be planting this grass? If it's in the deep south, it will die when in summer. It says it's a blend of 6 types of fescue. Fescue is a 'cool season' grass and will not survive a summer in the south.

I work with grass every day on lawns and athletic fields. I have served as president of the Louisiana Turf Grass association. Although I am not very familiar with 'cool season' grasses, I don't believe what they are claiming. And it seems to be very expensive. Maybe try a small amount first.

But, if you are anywhere in the deep south, don't waste your money.

Two sites will to be just a little north of you, the northeast corner of Mississippi and the other is near Washington DC.

Do you have any suggestions for a grass (other than zoysia) that is short? And can be seeded? And is shade tolerant?

For the site in Mississippi, you don't have many choices. You will need a 'warm season' grass there. There are basically 4 choices for warm season grasses.

1. St. Augustine is the most shade tolerant, but does not make a viable seed, therefore cannot be seeded. It can only be sodded or sprigged.

2. Centipede is not as shade tolerant, and can be seeded, but takes a long time to establish. Up to a year.

3. Bermuda is not very shade tolerant, and can be seeded and establishes fairly quickly, and the seed is inexpensive.

4. Zoysia - you said you don't want zoysia, so that's not an option.

So, your choices are centipede or bermuda. I would go with the bermuda. They are usually sold as a blend for turf. Stay away from the 'common' bermuda which is for pastures.
