Has anyone successfully installed tire chains on a RTV 500? I picked up some ICC Super Diamond ATV chains but I'm running into interference problems in front with the strut housing and in the rear with the parking brake cable.

Why do you need them? I never needed them on my 500...Frozen pond riding maybe.

Plowing snow on icy side hills in the winter. I can't imagine the worksite tires will handle the plowing this winter without them. I haven't tried it with the RTV 500 yet but I've had traction issues with other equipment in the past, you get on a side hill and the machine starts sliding down very quickly. I'd like to have studded chains as a safety measure.

I had ATV tires on mine and plowed hills with no problems. If you get alot of freezing rain, guess you might need them...I'd try it as is first. You're putting way too much thought into this. :D

It's possible I am over thinking it, I was just trying to be prepared before snowfalls and the pickings for chains are slim. I guess I'll give it a whirl and see how it goes, worst case scenario I could always put a set of wheel spacers in there and use a studded diamond chain if needed later.

I've had my RTV 1100 for two winters and have worksite tires on it and have had no problems plowing my driveway. Its not very long but has a hill with a 30 degree slope on it. I have the Curtis plow setup on it and have had no problems with that either.

Years ago we used plain old sheet metal screws in motorcycle tires to ice race. You could actually do a wheelie there was that much grip. Approx 200 per tire for racing.

I used them in my walk behind snow blower with great success. Can't remember how many. Too few and they rip out.

The good: cheap and easy to install.

The bad: tear up your tires and leave holes when removed for the summer.

The ugly: your decision.

This is the type we used, available at any hardware store. Just don't go too long or you end up with flat tires.
