i am a costco member and have been a sams before, but i honestly dont know anyone who's a bj's member??? stopped going to sams because it wasnt worth havin 2 club memberhips and i personaly prefer costco anyways. theres a bj's not far from me and i honestly dont know and have asked who is a member there and i know no-one. there website seems to be complete and "other wholesale club" like, is there any advantage to bj's??? what are your thoughts? they do have a free admit and shop(+15%) if you buy day pass, its so busy as heck now with christmas/new years so either i wait till after the rush or maybe not at all from replies from you guys. thanks

p.s, do they sell auto batteries???

You should visit BJs and see if it is any different than Costco. We don't have a BJs near us and Costco is not even in the area though they are getting ready to build a Costco sorta nearby. Costco is a good company and I was a member back in FLA years ago.

I have coworkers who are BJs members and I went with one coworker to BJs once. It looked like Costco.

I looked at the BJs website but the site was not showing grocery items which is what we would primarily buy from the warehouse stores. I suspect whatever we would save in buying from BJs would be used up in gas getting to the store.

Later,
Dan

Given there's no Costco within easy driving distance from us, we signed up at BJs and also Sam's Club. Each is a good hour's drive but in opposite directions thus the reason for dual membership. Gives us the flexibility to shop at either depending on which way we're going.

Have also been to a number of Costcos and IMO there's not really all that much difference between any of these club type stores. You also have to be careful about pricing and not just assume things are less expensive. I usually would do the barcode/smartphone comparison thing for more expensive items and often find what I'm looking at in the store I can get for less online.

I also think that even among the same chain, individual stores can vary in overall size & selection.

One thing Costco has going for it their reputation for a generous return policy. If we lived in an area within easy driving distance to the major club type stores, I'd probably go with Costco.

I've been a Berkley and Jenson's member for many years. I've actually never been in a Costco or Sams, so I can't tell you if they are different. I'm surprised that you haven't gotten a free 30 or 90 day membership mailed to you. We get them a few times every year since we live close to one. The BJs near us has a gas station which is about 5-8cents cheaper than any around. I know one person that says he saves the cost in membership just in buying milk there. I ended up buying my TV there as their prices were better than any other place in the area.

We have been a BJ’s member for a number of years and seem to go there a couple of times each month. Have to be careful what you buy and some of the items are cheaper at the local stores. One thing I like is their beef and we buy a beef roast for the holidays from them and it has always been excellent (heck it might be my wives cooking that makes it great) always tender and tasty. Large items seem to be good there as well, like TV’s camera’s tires, etc. One thing is you are buying in bulk so keep that in mind. Berkley and Jenson has been in trouble over past few years like many retail businesses and recently they were bought out for a whole bunch of money!

BJ’s Wholesale Club agreed on Wednesday to sell itself to private equity firms for $2.8 billion in cash, the latest in a string of buyouts of retailers.

BJ’s, founded in 1984, competes with much bigger rivals like Costco Wholesale and Sam’s Club, a unit of Wal-Mart Stores. The chain, which is based in Westborough, Mass., has remained entirely in the eastern part of the country, with its 190 clubs located in 15 states from Maine to Virginia. Its new owners — Leonard Green & Partners and CVC Capital Partners — are likely to widen its geographical reach.

i/we honestly have never received a free membership in the mail but online ive found a free day pass with the 15% non member added to the price, they have been around a long time but like i said, never went. i will have a look sometime after the new year when things slow down a bit, its crazy out there now. i will compare them to costco, for everday consumables, thanks for the feedback. i did not know that they were just bought, so competetion should be even more aggressive i suppose if they expand, good for the consumer. if only they'd sell tractors/farm fencing/feed/seed/honda atv's and dodge diesel trucks, that would truly be a store...lol.

I have BJ's and a Costco membership. IMO, Costco is a bit better but nothing really wrong with BJ's either. I feel Costco edges BJ's out in slightly better meat and produce selections. (At least my 2) Costco also has more choices of every day "stuff"
