Hiya,

I was at the dealer last Thursday talking snowblowers. (I came very close to picking up a front mount 47" however some mounting parts are on backorder for the 2520 till maybe Feb)

Anyway, we got to talking about various stuff (4105, cabs for the 2x20's, new models) I asked what Deere is going to do now that some say the 790 is going away, and he said that it's going to be re-badged as "2720" but remain basically unchanged.

Anyone else hear anything?

I doubt if that's the case. Deere and Yanmar (who builds the 790) have dissolved their partnership and Yanmar is building with Cub Cadet now. However, since most of the 2xxx and 3xxx series tractors use Yanmar engines, I'm sure there will still be some kind of relationship.
Since Deere bought a plant in China, I expect the 790's replacement to be chinese junk (although it may have the 790's sheet metal).
That's my guess...

On the JD web site, the 790 in 4 wd is gone, but if you go into build your own, you will see a 3005 listed. That tractor takes all the same attachments, etc. as the 790, so I expect that is the replacement model number. I haven't found any other info on the 3005 there........ though you can build one.

Interesting and the 3005 w/o 4wd price is exactly the same as the 2wd 790.

I talked to the dealer I bought my 790 from about a month ago and he said they were still getting 790's and he hadn't heard anything about them being discontined. Everything here will normally come in 4wd.

I seem to recall some info here on TBN regarding the new versions of the 790 and 990 tractors.

Something along the lines of renumbering the 790 to 3005 and the 990 to 4005 and refitting them with newer Tier II-III Yanmar diesels that meet the new EPA regulations.

Didn't sound like Deere was completely divorcing themselves from Yanmar but there was no info regarding where the machines were going to be built (India..?).

My $0.47 cents (inflation).

790 = 3005, 990 = 4005...should see them on dealer lots soon. Minor upgrades, mainly engine to meet emissions, nothing major has changed.

There is a 4105 also. What is it comparable to anyway? I saw my dealer had one today.
