Before I bought a tractor I used an AMC (4wd) Eagle hatchback to do many things most would use a tractor for (pulling tree stumps etc) I improvised with several different homemade dragging implements and hauled many loads of gravel and fill shoveled into the cargo bay of the hatchback...I still have the Eagle.."it goes int he snow"

This is exactly the kind of thing that methamphetamine makes you think is a good idea. "Hey guys. Let's go take that tree out of the front yard! We can use the car! Yeah! Let's do it!"

Either that or they were a bunch of inbred Cretins.

Boy, you guys are hard on people who pull trees out with cars! The ones in the video didn't do it right. That's all.

First, you pick smaller trees and a better vehicle. I had to remove five, 20' red cedars which had been planted around the foundation of my older house on a corner lot in town, and they had grown up and out, making a mess. I wanted stumps and all gone, so I waited until the day in late winter I figured the frost had let go of the roots but remained hard in the ground below. Then I backed my 4Runner up, attached a 1" poly tow line around the base of the tree and looped it over the receiver hitch -- not the hitch ball. In 4 low I rolled forward in 2nd gear. Out popped the tree, roots and all. I had soon formed a windrow of cedars on the quiet side street until I could get my trailer into position. Two trips to the municipal dump and the job was done. No damage to the lawns or the 4Runner.

On another occasion my wife and I removed a 30' section of cedar hedge with a golf cart.

So the devil is in the details.

Maybe it is just me, but I like the way the guys in the video did it better - more style.:laughing:

Yep, it's all about style...not sure, but I think they got 3 wheels off the ground at one time and tried hard for 4!

Epitome of my grandmother's saying: "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!"

You have to wonder "what was the expected result?". Did they really think they were going to pull over a 3 or 4 foot thick fully mature healthy tree with a car? And after the first couple of pulls, is the next dozen attempts going to make it better? I will say this, that was one tough old car. I fully expected to see pieces parts flying off of it on the first pull. But no, it hung in there with multitudes of abuse. Pretty dang funny.

Reminds me of a buddy of mine trying to pull a limb off with his 250 honda dirtbike. I laughed so hard i fell down. One end of the rope is tied up high in the tree to a limb, the other end tied to the back of his bike. Off he goes, hits the end of the rope, back of the bike flips up into the air with my buddy ejected off the bike over the handle bars. Good thing he was wearing a helmet.
