There are times when I need to smooth soil that is powdery soft (from tillage) and relatively rock free. I wonder if a chain harrow used upside down on the smooth side would work? The tine side would be far too aggressive and just bring up small stones, etc.

Here's a pic of what I would be starting with.

The ground may look smooth but there are occasional tillage marks or slight holes that would easily fill with the soft soil I could drag it around before seeding.

I use the smooth side all the time. It still pulls out weeds and loosens rocks

I use the smooth side all the time if the soil is powdery, or if I just dont want to leave marks from the harrow points. I sometimes throw a tire on it if I want to drag more soil with it.

I drag mine backwards to break up manure piles in grass. You mite need forward backward and then upside down.

Another thing have any of y'all tried dragging it running the tractor backwards. I hook mine to the loader bucket and pull it. That way I can drag all the debris to a central pile raise it up and shake it.

I've actually used it three ways - Smooth side, tines down facing forward, tines down facing to the rear. I tend to use it like Walkin Horse. I hook it to the hooks on my bucket so I can lift it up and place it closer in the corners of the fences.

It looks like a good start for a runway for a ultralight!

Wow, I didn't think so many would use it that way. Thanks for the good advice and I will be a smooth side user..
