I''ve heard Do-All's referred to for twenty years but don't think I ever saw one up close. Apparently they are similar to a tiller or more like a powered harrow? I saw a 2-row advertised in the local market bulletin for $400.00 and it brought the question up again in my mind. Anyone who can explain or post a picture? Thanks.

I too have heard about it. But.... "Do-All" seems to me to be a big word/name. Does "All" also cover plowing? also tillage? also landscaping? also plating? also fertilizing? also cutting? also mowing? also harvesting? Well, I know of such a real "do-all" which also produce milks - naturally (Copyright: humor stolen from Egon.)

Really, I too am wondering the same and would like to see a picture or two. If such a "do-all" is a famous blow in the market, then I may design one "do-all" of mine. Anyone interested?;)

Ps: and.. is it only $400? I for one don't believe.

Shaw Do-Alls were small garden tractors and walk behind tractors. I saw an episode of classic tractor fever that chronicled the history of the company.

This "Do-All" is an implement used in the southern USA and this site (http://wsare.usu.edu/docs/steel/glossary.html ) gives a description:

Do-all. Generic name for several combinations of secondary tillage tools. Usually combine S-tine cultivators, harrows, disks and a leveling device, widely used in conventional tillage systems in the Mississippi Delta and central Midwest.

I was hoping that someone here could provide more detail or pictures. Thanks.

The Do Alls here have some S tine cultivators/chisels in the front in 2 staggered rows. Then it has wat looks like an old Cornstalk cutter blade on it that chops the weeds and clods then it has a spring loaded drag thats usually a steel plate with an oak board. A farmer just did a field near where I work with one. Id like to build a smaller one they can be found cheap but large in Alabama. Id just take a wing off one and narrow it to fit dads 3000 Yanmar. The farmer had alot of deep ruts and ros from a previous renter and in about one day he had it all pretty smooth. Its kinda like a larger version of the TR3 rake i think it is.

Apparently runs off the PTO? How would it do after disking to prepare a seedbed? How deep do they till?

Non powered is the great part about it. the stalk cutter like devices look like a paddle wheel boat paddle. that just break up the clods and some of the old growth ill try to take a picture of that field they used the do all on. the field was covered in sage grass about 4 feet tall and its all plowed under in one step.

Taylor,
You mentioned in the above post you'd like to find a smaller one... The one I saw was in the MS market bulletin, and I think in Carthage. The owner works two jobs and couldn't show it or handle the transaction until the weekend. Thanks for the description. A friend of mine in Lawrence County farms pretty big so I talked with hiim about it. He said he had a large one "retired" out behind the shop that we could cut down if I wanted it, so that price beats the heck out of the $400.
