Way off topic, but I have a Denon AVR-1200 receiver on *Protection*. Could this just be a blown fuse, or am I facing down a blown amp? I've disconnected all inputs and speakers to rule a crossover, and it doesn't appear to have been overheated.(since its ice cold).

Assuming its beyond my repair capabilities, any opinon on if it is worth having dealer repaired? (keep in mind I'd love an excuse to buy new).

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Have you unplugged it from the outlet? Sometimes doing so for between 5 and 15 minutes lets the unit reset itself. Gerard

Does the owners manual say anything about it?

Have you looked on the Denon web site for answers?

Perhaps thier customer service?

Yes, it does mention protection mode. It says let it cool down. If that doesn't do the trick it says to take it in for factory authorized service. Just to look at it is $80.

Its a great receiver but I hate to sink a lot of money into 8 year old electronics.

Did you take it apart to see if there is a fuse? My friend had a Marantz that had a blown fuse. Replaced it and it worked fine.

Also, at 8 years old, you may want to just buy a new one. Gerard.

Depends on what kind of protection mode it is in. Some amps have thermal protection which will cut out, and then reset after some time. Other protection indicators can indicate output device failure. Commonly you will see a few letters, like ODP.. etc.. Course I work on pro gear.. don't mess with consumer stuff too much.. but some of that dennon gear makes it above consumer quality and specs.. so does marantz and sony.. etc.

Had it been a crest, QSC, or crown.. once the OD light comes on.. it requires manual intervention to get it going again ( repair ), as the OD indicates a tangible fault with the output device. Only rarely have I seen protection schemes that monitor the input, and intermediate gain stages.
I'm afraid if it isn't a 'resetable' error.. you may have an output device failure.

Post back when you find out what it is.
