any of you ever owned or knew someone who had a YM 1700>> would like to know how they operate,, it's a 4x2. 20hp. about what year were they made??? can't find any info on this tractor.. is it to old and are parts readily available (hope i don't need any)... BUT!!!! THE price is right $1900.00
i am still looking for a tractor. want a 4x4 but $$$$ is getting tight and may have to settle for what i can find....
There are quite a few YM1700 and near-identical tractor owners on here. A slightly modified version of the same tractor was sold in the US when Yanmar had dealers here, it was designated YM195.
There is also a near-twin with larger-bore cylinder sleeves, YM2000, and the YM2000's US brother was YM240. That's what I have. Search here for all those models and you will find a lot of posts.
Also take a look at the US sales brochures referenced from my sig, below.
For all four of these there was an 'early' and 'late' series. Early had headlights alongside the grille, for Late the headlights are in the front/top of the grille. The only difference is the sheet metal and in a few cases you need to specify early or late to get the right replacement part.
I've read YM1700/YM2000 was sold in Japan about 77-79, and that they went from green paint to red for the Late series.
The US YM195/YM240 were all pale green, early and late, and were sold until about 1982. My parts book says it applies to years 1975 and up so I wonder if these, or the Japanese versions, were sold earlier than 75.
I've read that these are about the best supported models, and my experience over four years is that everything is available easily. I get stuff from hoyetractor.com and there are other good suppliers also.
If the size of the tractor is suitable and its condition checks out ok, you can't go wrong.
4x4 on a tractor this old could get expensive to fix, and of course raises the price. I might buy newer if I needed 4x4 and intended to use it hard. I have 2wd and consider it sufficient for my use, no problems.
