After reading a post by Luca on toothbars I checked out Berlin Industries Berlon: Mini Tooth Bar and their mini tooth bar. I like the idea of 8-teeth, 25lbs., and the price. I would be installing on a 48" bucket of a 23hp Kubota, but the teeth are not replaceable (or easily replaced):(. My use is that of a homeowner not concrete/asphalt work 5 days a week. Any thoughts? How often have others replaced teeth?

When I was looking to buy one, I thought this was a good choice... but keep in mind that it is a "lightweight". I would love to hear from someone who's been using one.

You will not be able to compare the harden steel teeth of the expensive tooth bars to this one. I think this might be just mild steel... and I can see it working well, just don't try and dig concrete for days on end...

When I finally found a "used" tooth bar, I was very surprised about how heavy the darn thing was...

It would depend on what soils you would be working with. In a more clay soil, they wont wear near as fast as a sandy soil. A rocky soil will have wear, but not near the wear of the sandy soil. For example, with my box blade, i just replaced the teeth yesterday. i used my box blade mainly to dig up horse arenas, move loose clay dirt, and grade the driveway. What put the most wear on it was the sand which almost acts like sand paper constantly and continually wearing down on the tooth. My box blade had teeth welded on which i removed with the grinder and pounded off. Replacing them was a hassle so i drilled a hole in each shank so I could bolt on the teeth for future replacement ease. With the tooth bar you are looking at, I cant see how you could replace the teeth without welding on new teeth unless you converted it to the box blade tooth and bolted the teeth on.

You know if you don't floss right the teeth will need replaced!

Honestly, I can't see needing to replace the teeth during your lifetime if all the machine is used for is around the home.

I'd think if you only used it intermittently it would last longer than your tractor. First, I don't think those teeth need to be sharp to do some good so there is a lot sticking out there to wear away. Second, as a fall back position, if you did eventually have excessive wear, a welder could build it back up, maybe even with a harder alloy. Hope someone knowledgeable about that will comment. And third, if all else fails, (way down the road) you didn't have that much in it anyway.

I haven't purchased one yet, but that is the one I was looking at.

I agree with the above comments, that with occasional use by a homeowner, that one should outlast the tractor.

I would think that an angle grinder would bring dull teeth back instead of replacing them.

I agree. I expect the bigger risk would be breaking a tooth or bending the bucket if you are working concrete or rock. With normal dirt use, I don't think you will be in trouble with the teeth, it will be with the bucket.

I have the JD toothbar for my JD skid steer. I can only lift one end at a time to move it, that thing is heavy! But of course it's designed for a lot heavier duty than what you will be doing (hopefully!)

The rough shape of the teeth keep them sharp enough. This isn't about actually cutting (like a knife), but having pressure points that concentrate the weight (or push) of the tractor into penetration points.

You don't sharpen box blade tips, they wear into rough points and are used the same way.

I am considering this blade as well for SWMBO's Minster (L125). Might be a nice trade off for weight (it only holds ~700 # in the bucket on level ground).
