Does anyone own or have info on a Deere 5205 tractor? I might get a chance to look at one that has only a couple hundred hours on it and it would work well with a seeder I am thinking of getting. I'm looking to see if anyone has one that could speak of reliability or problems. Thanks in advance.

I bought my 5205 new in 2006 and since then it has been reliable although I have only just over 600 hours on it. It is noisy and I find ear protection is required when running it. Aside from that my only quibble is the gearing is poorly thought out. First gear gives too fast a speed and I don't like that reverse is much faster than forward.

Thanks for info on first gear, really is pretty fast for some tasks. I've been looking but can find no online info on a creeper gear available for this tractor.

Bought a used one in January. I like it a lot but don't care for the seat adjustment, it has no leg room. It is way faster in reverse than "A" forward as noted. The loader is stout and haven't even come close to lifting the rear end. One extendable arm on the 3 point is broken, really lousy design but better than fixed arms. Hopefully will last a long time.

I owned a 5205 4wd for several years. Used it clearing timber mostly with a grapple bucket. I used it like I stole it and I thought it was a beast. I bought it used, put over 800 hours on it then sold it for as much as I paid for it. It also had really good fuel economy compared to the cab tractor I bought to replace it. I don't think you could go wrong with one.
