I am looking to get a TIG for my shop. The machine I had picked out is the Lincoln Precision TIG 225 until I started looking at the Everlast units. The PowerTig 225 LX caught my attention due to price, higher duty cycle, and what appears to be very good customer service.

I am having a hard time finding first-hand accounts from users of this machine. Does anyone here have one of these welders and can share your opinion? I would use the machine for 60/40 SMAW/TIG work.

Thanks.

Few years ago there was a lot of bashing of the Precision Tig 225 on the welding forums! Before you pull the trigger on that Precision Tig 225 I suggest you do lots of research. Guys were selling them and buying Dynasty 200.

Also check out the Thermal Arc 200 AC/DC Full Featured and It's a favorite of the Aerospace and Semi Conductor guys. Priced way under Miller and uses High Quality Sanrex inverter technology. They sell for around 2K. Bullet proof and a great warranty.

I've done quite a bit of research on this machine and have not heard anything like that. I suppose I will have to do some more digging.

I have used the Precision TIG 225 before and was very impressed with it's performance.

I'm sure the Thermadyne is a nice unit too, but it looks like the going rate is $2500+, which is more than I can justify spending.

For the life of me I can't remember the issues. I think it was on the Miller forum, but one of the guys doing the most complaining is probably the best Tig weldor I've ever met. He was forced to use a Precision Tig 225 at work, and he couldn't stand it. Now he does high pressure pipe work, so there is no doubt he has higher expectation of a Tig machine than I do. Also remember this was a few years ago, maybe Lincoln corrected these issues.

Everlast will probably be the Low Cost Leader for what you seek. Tons of knobs though it looks to be all you need to get started.

The knobs eliminate having to wade through complex menus to determine settings. The pulse is fully adjustable on the PowerTig 225. The precision tig is pretty limited. You either like it or you don't. You also have a wider AC balance range, and a AC frequency control, something I think the precision tig doesn't have, or its more limited. I can't remember. Its been a while since I used one.

After a day or so, working with a pulse on a unit, you shouldn't have any trepidation involved with understanding the settings. The rest either control AC or the TIG torch switch cycle. Post Flow and Down Slope. The 250EX has a few more knobs, but each has its place and reason.
