There's one for sale in my area, just wondering if anyone has the good/bad with this tractor, preferably the diesel version(88)? I'm looking for one to do a bunch of haying on my hobby farm. I have a gehl 2170 haybine and a john deere 24t baler that it would need to run. I don't have a ton to spend right now, so I'd be looking at fairly older tractors. Thanks

The 85 is a row crop tractor and the 88 was a "western" version of the same. "Western" tractors were also known as standards or standard tread. They typically had much wider rear tires to be used without duals and a fixed track width front axle (as opposed to an adjustable track width axle as commonly found on row crop tractors.) In MOST cases, standards USUALLY were not equipped with 3-point hitches. They were used to pull larger drawn implements for use in wide open spaces. Standards sold mostly in "wheat country" like the western plains of the US and in Canada.

The 85/88 was a "good" tractor in its day. It was replaced in the MF line-up by the 90/Super90.
