I intend to get a welder in '05, and thought I might build my own boxblade if I could find plans. Suggestions would be appreciated. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks!

Charley,
Go to this link and scroll down towards the bottom under "My Machines" Ther is a 6 page plan with parts list for a box blade free for download and use, it is in PDF format.

Thanks Wally! For some reason, my acrobat reader isn't functioning so I can't open the PDF right now, but I've saved it to favorites and will view it as soon as I get this dumb computer sorted out.
Thanks again!

There are a lot of good budget priced box blades out there. By the time you buy the materials, including the hardened steel cutting edge and the hardened teeth for the scarifers, you will have a good chunk of change in a box blade. If you already have the material lying around then go for it. I would price some local vendors before you strike the first though.

I can see the logic there. I might have come to the same conclusion part way into the project, which would have been a few dollars too late. Anyone who builds things for a living suffers from whatifitis from time to time. Thanks for the cold water.

I love building things myself. Look in my profile and click on my webpage and you can see a few things I built. I have yet to go buy any steel for my projects. I scrounge around and stockpile and scrap steel I can find. Then when a project comes to mind I take inventory of what I have. I built a pulverizer for about $30. I built a small tandem axle dump trailer that cost me $125. That was mostly wood and hydraulic hoses. I had all the steel for both projects already.

It's not only the fun of building things, but also the fun of OPERATING a sturdy thing built the way it should be !!
When i look at many of the box blades advertised on the internet, i think they will bend before i even have to put my Zetor in 4wd ;)
Most economy blades are built very flimsy from angle iron and flatbar instead of much more stabile tubes.
