Never have looked at how big the spring their talking about or how it's set up. May have to pull up the boot and have a look now. Hate to because now mine will probably screw up.

Well lucky you can稚 compress the spring cause they pull in tension to keep the seat up.

There are two little sliver bolt on both sides of the bottom frame near where it mounts to tractor on . that if you pull out let the seat come up a little higher so you can just barely get the springs back on when they come off.

Not sure of the solution but pretty sure it involves duct tape.

I just had the same problem with my seat on a 4225h. Aquamoose said it, be patient.

I drilled a little larger new hole in the knob in the opposite 90 degree direction. Now I’m going to use a #8 x 1 1/2 stainless bolt with a lock nut. Old hole area was damaged. Make sure you have the two thin washers, one thick washer, and the bearing that goes between the knob and the seat base bracket. All of the seat load and spring pressure pulls on this knob.

I removed the seat and base from the tractor. Then I removed the seat from the base and then removed the boot from the base. At the bottom of the base on each side are bolts that hold the seat stops in place. Remove the stops for now and expand the base to give you no pressure on the springs to reinstall them. Install the four springs in the back with the plastic guide clips in place. Install the T-handle shaft for the knob through the base and install the washers and bearing and knob. Now install the front of the four springs to the T-handle. Extend the base open/taller to give you slack on the springs to help install them. Good luck and be patient. With springs on collapse base and reinstall stops.

Now just put it all back together. All I can say is patients grasshopper!

Mine broke twice, the first time it was the roll pin like the previous posts, the second time the knob broke where the roll pin sits in the grooves. Fixed it the second time by just getting a nut and screw for the tensioner system. Since the knob is useless now, I just need to use a ratchet and socket to adjust the seat - I don't think it's going to break again.
Oh, and by the way, I'm not heavy and didn't constantly adjust the seat - it just broke.
