hi all,

been looking at picking up a slightly used 5 series. One dealer has what he called a 'market share tractor' in the quote he sent. Anyone know what this designation means?

Thanks in advance.

Haven't heard that term before used that way. Post what you find out. Some kind of a demo unit maybe?

Likely means a "lower end" cheap-as-possible offer that Deere makes to have their "share" of the total market that is at that "low end".
Have heard it said that before.
Tractors produced by MTD and Craftsman come to mind, and many buyers just want the lowest price.. and there are many, many buyers who buy just that way.. the used market reflects just what brands and models make up that lower end. Models that Deere sells through the box stores are good examples.. The Sabre line was a Deere attempt to capture that "market share", but without the Deere green, was an "Edsel fail".
My opinion anyway.

I remember seeing Sabre mowing tractors at the local JD dealer, different shade of green. I asked a salesman why they would even want to sell them. He said he didn't and tried to show customers JD offerings, but some insisted lower cost was better and JD wanted that sale too.

I do not know if JD made them or someone else. They looked very cheap to me.

JMHO - some sort of combination of what Zebrafive( post #5 ) & Beenthere( post #6 ) have to say. I would be cautious.
