It's about three feet in diameter.

That's what it is. Typical shade for an outside light on a barn or outbuilding.

Light shade, usually hanging from a? shaped pipe. Make the ? horizontal and you will have it. Shade hung from the hooked end, bulb screwed into socket that is missing from the top of shade. Standard stuff outside on a 1950's building.
