Back in the day the ole 140 or super A had a hopper that would put down fertilizer beside your plans in the ground. I think its referred to as side dressing.

I was/am interested in doing something like this for my kioti. I would of course have to run it off the 3pt hitch. I checked and a new one is somewhere abouts $5k for a dual row. I could buy a superA or 140 for that and maybe even get that attachment (this might even be a gooder idea...).

Anyone tackled this thought? Making something that could do side dressing?

Are you talking granular or liquid?

We called them a Cole distributor, I had 2 of them set up on an old Pittsburg frame with a chain and a drive wheel, they were on top of the frame and the 2 Cole planters were on the back and we would side dress as we planted, I still have the frame and the 2 Cole fertilize distributor hoppers but I don't have the 2 planters anymore, long story short I think that is what you are talking about.

Was thinking granular fertilizer.... Now you mention it, It may be easier/cheaper to ride my (kawasaki) mule down a row and use my 25 gallon sprayer tank. I have some water soluble fertilizer I use in my drip irrigation.

Yes the Cole distributor was the brand. They still make em but at $5k more than I want to spend.

I spent some time yesterday looking at 140's but those fertilizer hopper attachments are hard to come by. Hadn't even heard of a 274 before yesterday. Its an offset tractor but instead of gas it was diesel, 30hp. stopped making that in 83-84. Found a few for about 8-14K no attachments.

I'm kinda liking the tank idea. Even if I had to put it on a 3 pt attachment to raise it high enough. I'm sure I have higher clearance on the tractor than my mule for a second/third application.
