MF 1428
I have a MF 1428 hydro that I want more hydraulic power out of. I do not want to sacrifice my rear PTO. Rear remotes are outrageously expensive for not much output. I never use my mid mount PTO so I thought it might be a solution. It turns 2000 rpm at 2500 rpm where the rear turns the usual 540 at 2500. I cannot find a pump designed either to be mid mounted or run at 2000 rpm. Any thoughts other than some complex stepdown tranmission?

Does not sound very feasible to me, nor cost effective...

What exactly would you like to run with this setup?
What are the specs (GPM and PSI) of your tractor?

It is a 28 hp Massey. I will have to pull the paperwork for the tractor's own hydraulic data. I want to run a snowblower that I can slide into the FEL.

I think it going to be more likely you will have to run if off the rear pto and use a hydraulic reservior to run the front blower. Find the blower that you want and size the pto pump accordingly. The 540 pto can run the rear pump fine. However, you are still limited somewhat running the blower because the 24 pto hp of the massey and the ineffiency of hydraulics. You may not have enough tractor pto power to create enough flow/power for the blower. I have read of estimates of 35% loss of hp by using hydraulic motors. Maybe higher with the above setup.

Your best bet for powering a snowblower with that size of tractor is a 3 pt mounted unit. Hydraulic blower may cost 2-3x more than rear pto blower, plus the cost of the pump, reservior, hoses, valves etc. Even with all of that cost, you may lack the performance.

I was going to get a 3 point blower until I ruptured a disc in my neck. I have a 48 inch blower with 6 inch wings that fits nicely into my 60 inch bucket. That blower requires only 14 hp so my plan was to put a hydraulic motor on it and have a front mounted tool. I realize it won't be fast but this is just for use on the farm for driveways, barn access, animal paths etc. My 1428 per the catalog puts out 7.4 gpm at 2134 psi. From what I have read from Kennyd, Mad Referee etc over the years this is not enough. I was just hoping that I could get aux hydraulics off a PTO I will never use instead of tying up the rear PTO. Thanks.

The reservour of the fluid is the tractor transmission case and rear end ( I'm fairly sure it is anyway). A large volume pump might drain it leading to other concerns. Might work, but there isn't much head space under there.

I'd go 540 pto and just get a larger volume pump and use a separate fluid reservour.

Not that I am dead set on wasting my time or money on this but on my sketch up I put the on my FEL pedestal opposite the loader valve where some of the MF guys I know put their tool boxes. With a little more effort I also found 2000 rpm 14 gpm cast iron pumps (max 3600 rpm, 28gpm 400psi) for around $250.

Any links to those pumps that you can post?

I think a rear setup is the way to go...You will need weight back there anyway so why not make it useful? And you won't need the rear PTO while snowblowing anyway.

You could take a carry-all, and mount a 20 gallon tank to it that would serve as the reservoir and as ballast. Then run the 3/4" or 1" lines up front to the blower.

What ever you do...it's gonna be expensive! Does MF offer a front PTO driven blower to fit your machine?

400psi? Are you sure?
