Went to cable a while back and now have a DirecTV dish and (4) receivers that are no longer needed. Don't know what to do with them other to list on ebay, but, know they give these away when you subscribe to services.

Thought I would ask here if anyone wants or needs them before I do something. They are in great shape and about 2 years old. You can have them for the cost of shipping. Just let me know if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Eddie

Have someone who wants these items. Thanks all for the inquiries.

When I bought my home a few years back, it came with some Dishnetwork equipment. After a few months I went to activate it and they wouldn't let me. Said it was in the previous owners name. I had to get a signed affadavit from him and some other stuff. Said, thanks for nothing and called Directv, which installed everything for free. Point is, to activate the equipments some additional effort might be required on your part.

That makes sense as they would want to make sure it was not stolen equipment. I think each receiver has a unique identifier they can read back thru their system to verify its origin. Still it could be more of a hassle getting an old one cleared than just getting a new one that is free anyhow.

Yes, but you'd think that if it had not been registered as stolen there would not be a problem. Sounds like the dish companies are assuming the worst. If they let you register and then it was subsequently reported as stolen they would actually help catch a crook /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif.

I suspect the real reason is that they want to hook you into a longer term contract by providing a "great deal" on the new equipment in trade for a longer contract.

Had a similar problem with the same company. They were extremely uncooperative. I chose the same path for resolution, the competition.

Will keep this all in mind for the new owner and pass along this information. Hopefully, he won't have problems as it was direcTV.

I really liked DirecTV. My thing was that I wanted DVR and Hi-Def. To get this on DirecTV I was going to have to BUY over $700 worth of gear. Cable finally came down our road - 250 yards, was going to cost me close to $1,500 to have it ran a couple of years ago - and I could get what I wanted with cable without having to pay out $700.

I pay a little more a month, about $30 extra, but I have two DVR's one if which is high-def, two cable boxes and hi-def which is awesome. I feel I came out a little ahead by switching to cable. Not to mention we can now get the IP phones (once DSL is gone) and lower our phone bill as well.
