So for three straight years I have been looking for my roundtuit...I found it this past weekend. I am going to order two, three pound packages of italian bees with the queen for start up in new hives in the spring. Its been thirty years since I had a hive but I am looking forward to the fun. Love the honey as well.

Anyone else getting in or back in to apiary science? Anyone keeping bees currently?

We have been looking seriously at it. I have several bee keeping suppliers that I have received information from and they are not too far away from us.

My dad had several hives at one time when I was young. I am allergic to bee stings but with the proper equipment I don't thing I will have any issues. I am around bee hives all the time at the farm we rent but they are not mine and I don't actively work them.

I'm trying to get into it. I was going to build some topbar hives but a relative gave me two hives and a bunch of frames.

I was thinking for Mississippi I'd best get bees around April of 2015.

Any recommended sources for nucs in Northeast Mississippi? Just about where Tn/Al/Ms meet.

I bought the wooden ware for a first hive, but ran out of round-to-its.
This Summer, George brought his hives over to our place in exchange for some honey - an arrangement that we've had for several years.
Usually he sets up in the Spring for the locust tree flowers and then removes the hives after about 4 to 5 weeks.
This year, The Plant Manager asked George if he could leave them for the Summer to help our vegetable gardens, which he did.
We had cover planted our unused garden plot in buckwheat and the bees went crazy for it - you could hear the whole garden buzzing from a good distance away on a sunny day. George gave us some of the resulting honey which is very dark, almost molasses color, and very tatsy.
So, the round-to-it account is growing. We will be busy with alterations to our house in the Spring & Summer, so no bees in 2015, but 2016 I think will be our first hive. Seems like we're on a similar 3 year plan.

newbury go to beesource and they have people selling them. If I recall right there were some operations you wanted to stay away from. Beesource has a good mix of pro/amateurs.
