Well I came home from shopping last week and found someone had gotten into one of my workshops and deposited 2 sets of hives. Turns out it was the wife's uncle. Looks like I better raise bees now.

Question for the bee keepers here:

I have a 38 acre farm and I'd like to have a couple bee hives installed. For whatever reason(s), I'm not really interested in starting up another hobby. Hence, I'd like a bee keeper to come out, install the hives, take care of them, extract the honey and perhaps a get some of the honey.

Is this doable or is this the bee keeping version of the typical Craigslist ad of "free wood, come cut my trees down!" and I'm SOL about not getting into another hobby?

Thanks,

FTG-05 ---- It's possible to do exactly what you're wanting to do. I actually bought bees this year from a beekeeper that does that same thing. He calls it "sponsoring a hive". His model is that you do pay something for him to come out and take care of the hives, but in exchange, you get some honey and the benefits of the bee pollination.

Do a Google search for bee clubs in your area and I'm sure you'll find someone that does this. Also, check with your county extension agent.

An ad on Craigslist would also bee a good idea.

Ok, good to know. I'm not looking for a freebie! I don't mind paying someone, I just don't want to get into another hobby right now.

The local/count USDA NRCS and the county UT*-Extension is exactly where I started! They gave me some names and numbers plus the local (Madison county, AL) bee keepers club - I should be able to find somebody!

Good to know that it's not unobtainium!

Thanks,
