Tractor
John Deere 5510, Kubota HST 3010, ASV RC100 tracked skidsteer, Bobcat 435 excavator, Howard Price 15' finish mower, Kubota ZD331 mower, Woodmizer LT40 super hydraulic sawmill
I currently have a 5510 with FEL and calcium chloride in the rear tires for weight. We mostly use the tractor for manure spreading and for mowing with a 15' batwing. We have some issues with the tractor creating ruts in the field and so I was thinking about getting rid of the calcium chloride and instead putting on dual wheels the keep the weight but increase ground contact area. Anybody have any words of wisdom?

I had an opinion when I opened this thread, but I don't see to much of a problem with it. NOt entirely sure what the best way to go about it would be though. Would it be possibly to wait until the field dries out any? (stating the obvious I know but I'm curious)

A municipality that mows levies on the Mississippi river south of me has them front and rear for stability. I am not exactly sure of the model number, but it is a similar size tractor. Your local dealer should be able to help or there are aftermarket tractor rim mfg (Unvenfurth) comes to mind.

I appreciate the replies. The reason we can't wait for the field to dry is that we stockpile our horse manure out against a hillside in the field and then spread it in the Spring so we are driving the manure spreader out there every 3-4 days. Stephen you pointed out one possible option with those larger width tires -what are they and any approximate idea what they cost? They don't look like turf tires but maybe I'm wrong

We really don't use the FEL much on that tractor. We've got an ASV RC100 tracked SkidSteer that does that kind of work (unless it's broken), so maybe what I should really do is get rid of the calcium chloride and remove the FEL. What do you guys think? The rutting isn't terrible, but what we do is train horses for jumping and so flat fields without ruts are helpful

Before you spend any money, I would try working with the loader off.

Are you running radials? If not, that could be next along with losing the CaCl.

It's easy to spend a lot of $$ on a project like this with wide rims, tires and/or duals etc.

You can contact Hey Wheel Home
or Rear & 4-WD T-Rail Open-Center Duals - Unverferth Wheel Products ,
they can probably make anything you want, flotation wheels, duals, etc.

Even old tractors: 8n_dual.jpg Super-MTA-Duals.jpg

There may be a problem with less traction with dual tires and no extra weight added. Back in the day we had that problem when the ground was dry or slightly muddy and pulling large disks and harrows.
