John Deere 2210
My John Deere 2210 has had a small fluid leak out of the power steering hydraulic unit. Now it has gotten worse and I need to repair it-just as the grass is getting out of hand! Has anyone done this repair? I'm also looking at the shaft that goes into the hydraulic unit on the left side and looks to be slightly bent. Any input would be appreciated. Mel

Are you talking about the cylinder the moves the wheels, or the valve connected to the steering wheel?

It is the cylinder behind the front axle.

Below is a picture of the cylinder breakdown, they do not list a seal kit for it-so it may be a welded cylinder and considered non-rebuildable by JD. If the rod is bent then that has probably contributed to the leak.

I would suggest taking it to a local hydraulic shop to get an opinion, they can often fix cylinder very reasonably.

I'm willing to bet the cylinder is welded. My JD318 was welded. $164 to replace it back in 1999. My uncle's Kubota's steering cylinder was welded too. $199 last year.

Thanks for the cylinder pictures, informs my brain faster. I attached some photos of the cylinder. Any suggestions on plugging the hydraulic lines when I remove the cylinder? Are the two indents on the end of the cylinder for a tool to disassemble it? Apologies for the fuzzy picture. I always prefer to fix things myself when possible. With a bent shaft-I'll look for a shop who can do it right.

The two notches in the cylinder are for a spanner wrench to screw out the guide. It is actually a pretty easy cylinder to repair if you have the right tools. As kennyd mentioned, there is no seal kit, but all seals are available separately. Cylinder rod is also available if it is bent.

jd110 thanks for the info, any ideas where to get another cylinder rod? Would a hydraulic shop have rods? Mel
