This is an old thread that I started, and I just reread it.

I posted about this separately, but I did build my Suzuki Samurai dumptruck, and it still works well. I went with the power steering pump that is always on, and a custom reservoir that I made. I use a V-belt, which does sometimes slip a bit when I max out the pump, trying to lift an excessive load.

One thing that was a surprise: my Nissan PS pump puts out only 1100psi. I expected as much as 1500. I think that I can modify the relief valve, but I have not tried that yet. I do suggest that folks use a multi-ribbed belt for this type of application.
