I just bought a Gehl 6640 skid steer and it has 33 15-16.5 worn well, flotation tires. I am debating which tire size to use. either flotation tire or a 12'' tires for all around use its pretty nice a stout with the big tires.

I will be using this machine for grapple work on dirt next season and root removal. I am also considering running tire chain on the current tires for snow this season. I will be plowing snow on gravel.

I have never owned a skid steer before, and have never plowed snow with one. i have a fairly large driveway and parking area and this will be used primary on my gravel sections.

what has been your over all experience as far as plowing snow with one, I have a made up plow blade on quick attach, but i may just use the bucket. or possible buy a snow box next year.

Skid steers are a fair bit harder on chains than tractors. A lot more side load & slippage due to how they turn.

I origally bought a set of Deere chains that were sized for my loader tires. They broke within 15 minutes. After a few repairs the chains were junk after a day of use. I then bought a set of 3/8” tractor chains and cut them down to fit. They chains held up pretty well and never required any repairs. When I got my skid steer (Gehl 6635) my tire size changed so I couldn’t use the chains I had made. I went with a set 3/8” square link chains and they’ve held up really well. That’s really saying something because skid steers are incredibly hard on chains. The only thing that i’m wishing for is 2 link spacing so they’d run a bit smoother on frozen gravel. If you’re looking to plow, then chains are mandatory. Trust, they won’t work on just one end; you’ll need them on all 4 tore. In the woods, they’re great and really bite well. When moving dirt, they split the difference between bare tires and tracks. Just have to be careful on soft ground because they’ll dig a hole real quick.
