We planted more this year than in the past thinking we could sale at the Farmers Market. Actually since my son is home from college this would be a way for him to make a little extra cash. I told him I would give him 10-25% of the sales if he helps harvest:thumbsup: and the up keep of the garden. The balance goes back in to pay for seed, fertilizer, etc. He get a few hours every couple of weeks working a part time job.
Prices at the Farmers Market are running $1.25 a pound for squash, cucumbers, and early crops. Greenbeans are running $1.99-$2.49 a pound. Tomatoes are really not ready yet so not sure how much they will go for. My plant are loaded and I have 125 of them.
What are prices in your area going for?
So far I have been selling by "word of mouth" and have a waiting list. I sell squash and cucumbers for $1.05 a pound and greenbeans for $1.99 a pound if they come and get it. I have not had to go to the Farmers Market to sale so I figured if I saved on fuel driving to the market and sit for 4-5 hours it is worth selling a little cheaper.
My wife likes to can everything, its her summer hobby, so it may be another month before I really get going on the Farmers Market. But we should have an abundance of greenbeans, tomatoes, squash, peppers, cucumbers, cantaloupe, and wartermellon by mid July. And we planted 7 200' rows of pumpkin this weekend.
