In my concerns for safety on my hills and slopes, I'm wondering if I should have my dealer spread out my tires on my tractor before it's delivered and how much? According to Mahindra, all four tires can be spread pretty easily... the manual supposedly explains how it's done and how far they can be spread. I'm wondering how much more safety this would add? I'm already having my front and rear tires filled with water/antifreeze which is supposed to lower the center of gravity.

Has anyone spread their tires out on a 6500 4WD?

Sonnie,
I don't have a 6500, but it is amazing how much as little as 2" per side of tread width will change the stability of a tractor. Of course, the wider you go the more stable it will be.

SonnieP,

This is what I was referring to in your new tractor operator post in the safetey forum. I would highly recommend setting your tires out. I think mine are in the second to farthest out position. Only drawback is if you need to do tight space loader work. Also, make sure your attachments always clear your tire width. Now that I think about it I saw that you are planning on getting an 84" box blade? I'd recommend the 8 footer. Thats what I got and it works great with the 6500.

Also if your tires are loaded it is much easier for your dealer to do this than you. They are super heavy loaded.

Yeah, I now remember you suggesting that... I had forgotten.

How does it make the tires look in relation to the fender wells... does it look funny?

With that second to last position how wide does it make the overall width of the tractor? It's 77" standard I believe.

Also, did you spread out your front tires too?

Yeah... I may opt for an 8' box blade. I'm ordering the 8' industrial Duragrader... just finalized that deal. But, I'm only getting a 7' Brown Cutter.

Oh yeah... what 8' boxblade did you end up going with?

Look funny? A 6500 4WD could never look funny! These are serious machines /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, I noticed your posts about the duragrader, cant really speak to that. Don't know if you'd need both a box blade and this as they are used for the same tasks.

I attached a recent pic that shows the spacing. Most larger tractors have tires that extend past the fenders. I think it looks better than being so squared off and tipsy with them tucked under.

No... it doesn't look funny or unnatural. Do they reverse the wheels or do they use some sort of spacing?

The Duragrader is much different from a box blade. It's specifically designed to level withoug collecting and moving material.

they can flip the wheels and mount on the outsides instead of the inside. If you look at the rims you can pretty much figure out all the ways to extend them. No spacers required.

Right, I saw your points on the duragrader. I think the best thing about the box blade IS that it captures material. You can spread stuff out and all kinds of neat work. If I had to choose I'd go box blade. Biggest, baddest, heaviest one you can afford.

forgot to mention. You'll want the front tires set out as well.

I'm gonna get the box blade too... for when I DO want to capture material... but I DON'T want to capture material while leveling my driveway.

The Duragrader will precisely pull the rock (and only the rock) that is buried 2" below the surface back up to the top while making my driveway extremely level. As long as any potholes are not over 5' long, it will also fill them in nicely. There are counties that use these things instead of big equipment graders. Never heard of them using a box blade. Anyway... he guarantees it will do what I need effortlessly and gives me a 100% money back guarantee for 90 days + 1yr warranty.

I think there will be times when I'll need a box blade though so I'll definitely be getting one.
