Anyone try the Jinma Round Baler?

They have them in England. We went to see someone who was selling a mini baler like in the link, a mini wrapper and a mini rake. He had them set up. They looked good but worked very slowly. When there was even a very slight hill they would try to roll down. The guy had to back up every time he wanted to eject a bale. Time consuming. Also had to lift pick up ree. Seemed to take forever to come up. With a big round the backing up isn't so bad as you have less bales per acre. With the little baler you have a bale about every 30 - 40 secs. Also, unless the windrow was very small, the baler had to go slow to let the pickup reel collect all the hay.

The reason the guy was selling : it wasn't big enough for his needs.

We weren't very impressed with it.

Decided the old Jones baler was better for our needs.

The bales were also awkward to carry and stack.

They advertise the baler as good on steep hills but I can't see how you would stop the bales rolling away.

The wrapper seemed very good though.

I bought a Star mini baler from tractorconnection.com in the spring of 07. It works great. I'll never go back to square baler with knotters again. I grew up with an AC round baler back in the late 60's/early 70's. There is no comparison between the two. The Star has not made any cone shaped bales like the AC did. The bales are shorter than the AC so picking them up is easy. I've also baled haylage with the Star using a Star mini-bale wrapper. Tractorconnection can give you several people you can talk to directly who have these balers and we all love them for what we do. I bale between 6-10 acres grass hay now, with potential to go to 25 acres. I can do it all with a 33HP tractor. Go to any bigger of a bale and you need all kinds of "bigger and heavier" equipment. You'll need sides on a wagon or pickup to get the mini-bales off the field but they stack just as well as square bales in the barn.

How do you find them with rolling away down the hill?

When we tried one, even on a moderate hill, however you tried to unload them, they would roll off down the hill as they came out of the baler

That would be a fuel saver, no? They would all be near the same spot for pickup/loading instead of having to drive all over the field to get them. Just guessing.

Hmmm... Hadn't thought about it that way

The problem around here would be there is all sorts of overgrown stuff at the edges of the fields, would be fun to get it out of there.
