I have been looking at the kioti for months now. I am positive that i will be getting one, but dont know which way to go gear or hst. I was told by many people to get the gear to get the most power-tourqe out of it. I will be doing a lot of FEL dirt moving. Just wanted to hear from anyone with the gear, to see how it is, did not know if shifting was a big hassel. Does it work the same as shifting a standard truck? Got a price of 13,800.00 for the gear with the loader did not know if they would go down or not. Thanks

natem,welcome to the forum.
I have an HST, but there are a few members who have the gear drive and love it. Generally, with a tractor, you're not really shifting all the time. You usually get the gear you want and work forward and shift to reverse. When you want to go faster, you change gears, so it's not exactly like shifting a car.
The gear model CK20 is something you'll be able to get used to using, but you must clutch between shifts, and I think it's synchronized only between second and reverse. I may have that wrong but it is only between one gear and reverse, and that may be a little slow when doing a lot of loading.
You get a little more torque and horsepower, but the trade off of convenience was not worth it to me so I got the HST which is much easier since you only need push the HST pedal forward or back without clutching in between or even thinking about it.
When you're pulling something, the gear model will dig to China before giving up whereas the HST model will eventually hit it's relief valve pressure and not pull any more. I haven't found that to be a big problem, but there are times when I wish it had not given out.
The price you got is pretty good, and they're not likely to go anywhere but up.
Make sure you try each out and see which one you really like. For sure, do a little loading of some dirt or something so you can see what effort both require.
Good hunting and let us know how it turns out.

The CK20 gear is synchronizes between 1st and reverse which makes it real nice for loader work. The shifter is in line for faster gear selection and it will not grind when go from 1st to reverse.

The gear tractoe is a little more aggresive and does a great job but if your wife wants to drive it it can take a little gettin use to.

If you plan on doing a lot of mowing I would say to go for the HST.

I own a gear version, I tried the HST but didn't like it for my own reasons. I found I was more comfortable with gears. As far as using the FEL or snowblowing, HST would be more user friendly, but I'm sure I could do it just as fast as an HST. I have a snow blower but its usually just on there for weight unless there is more snow than I can push. As far as tilling, low range, first gear is fine for me. As far as pulling goes, if you can get traction, you can pull just about anything. Hope this answers some of your questions.

Get what you want. The difference in HP loss or gain is something most would not be able to tell the difference. Your buying this, make it comfortable for you. Test drive both of them and see how you like it. If you have not been around tractors much the HST is nicer and easier to use. I have been around tractors alot and I still prefer the HST over the gear, but that is my preference. Again take care of you.

I can take my HST and push against a tree till the tires spin, so the HP loss isn't something worth worrying about. Drive both and see which one you like, I wouldn't take for my HST, do a lot of loader work and backing a bush hog between trees to clear brush. I can keep the rpm's up and ease into tight places when need be.

well my local dealer was very good to me. He just got the gear in for me to go try out this week. I went today, and after trying both of them i think that it will be the gear. man they make one heck of a little tractor. I put a 200.00 deposit on it, and he said that he would hold it tell march when i will have the finances ready. I can not wait.

Oh, you poor poor man. First you won't get any sleep waiting until you get it, and then you won't get any sleep because you'll be up every hour to make sure it's still there. You're going to be sooo tired, but when you start working it, at least you'll be VERY happy.
Congratulations on your decision.

Welcome Aboard!
Now it begins, you're gonna "need" a toothbar for that FEL, then you probably "need" a boxblade, a backblade would be nice and of course, you're definately gonna "need" a backhoe.
Hey, how are you gonna move all this stuff you're gonna "need"? A trailer would be nice.
It never ends /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
