Hi,
I've been to TractoyByNet many times and finally decided to sign up. Googled pole barn Riverside County CA and found a thread about zoning. Thinking of building a pole barn/machine shop to service tractors and other farm equipment starting with my newly acquired Case 430 basket case. Motor in pieces but at least the head has new valves and springs and ready to go. Has been rebuilt before as rods are .020 under and crank is .010. Looks like this will be he final Hoorah:tractor: for the 188 Diesel after I get the crank turned.

Howdy neighbor. How do you say Aguanga? A(G)uanga or A(W)anga? Never did figure that one out. Or Juan, (W)aun, Jalisco (H)alisco? How about San Jacinto. Most people call it (J)acinto not (Y)acinto or (H)acinto or (W)acinto.:laughing:

Way too many moving in without the Southwest cultural background (Indian, Mexican, Spanish) who have no clue about local pronunciations. :laughing:

We pronounce it A(w)anga. Although not until we talked with longer time locals about it! We say San (Y)acinto, but I have to admit I haven't verified that one with locals.

My favorite is (surfing hot spot) Port Hueneme - Wy-nee'-mee - no non-locals get that one right! And our GPS is a laugh-a-minute around here.

Do you know, being Indian not Spanish, if the casino is 'Ka-whil'-a' or 'Ka-wee'-ya'? I've assumed the ll is a y from Spanish influence, but haven't verified that.

This is straight out of Wikipedia, The Cahuilla language is in the Uto-Aztecan family. A 1990 census revealed 35 speakers in an ethnic population of 800. It is critically endangered, since most speakers are middle-aged or older. In their own language, their autonym is Iviatim, and the name of their language is Ivia. Cahuilla is an exonym applied to the group after mission secularization in the Ranchos of California. The word "Cahuilla" is probably from the Ivia word kawi'a, meaning "master."
So it appears Cahuilla is a Spanish/Indian hybrid word. I've always heard it pronounced ka-wee-ya. Cahuilla Mountain has a lot of nice pegmatite deposits. So does Pala. Have you done any rock hounding around your area?

No rock hounding around here, no. Used to go out with my parent's in their RV, but once they stopped doing it so did I.
