Looks like it would handle mostly small stuff. Wouldn't try to feed anything without a push stick.

I used to have one, and member JayBrad (if I'm not mis-spelling his screen name) has one.... hopefully he will chime in as well. I paid somewhere around $800(US) for mine when I bought mine used several years ago. I did have to have a new anvil made by a machine shop at a cost of about $25. Other than that, mine ran flawlessly for a couple years. It will chip a limb about 4" across. You will need to hand trim some crotches before you feed it occaisionally since the chipper feed hopper isn't real big. I did some clearing behind our house and I ran several huge piles of brush through mine. I found the shredder portion to work well also. As far as I know, the manufacturer went out of business many years ago, but all shafts, bearings, etc. are all 'off the shelf' parts easily available at industrial suppliers like WW Grainger. If the cast ends and sheetmetal parts are in good shape, you won't have any trouble keeping it running for the next fifty years. Overall, I was very happy with mine when I owned it. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I'd really prefer a gas powered towable model that I could use in the forest but I'm looking at over 2x the price of this one.

Take a good look at the belts and blades and you can see if it has been abused. I looked at one like that in my search for a chipper but the blades had chunks out and the belts looked like they had been "smoked"a few times:eek:. You will want to put a tarp under it if you plan to use the chips. JMHO but unless you want to spend a lot more money (like 2500), stay away from the self powered units.

I have one of these supper apache 3 pt htch units i bought it this summer it has barely been used. i was absolutly supprised and impressed with how well and how quickly it worked. i made a pile of chips and mulch over a weeks time that i most likely will never use up. i would be interested in selling this as it is WAY more machine than i will ever need. anyone interested give me a call 1 231 536 2655 or e mail me frankp@korthase.com

Well I bought it. The knives were dull but sharpened up no problem. It works quite well and is in really good shape.
