I know that I have posted many times about how effective the Euro studded style of chain is compared to all other styles for tractors.
I have been feeling under the weather the last week so I wasn't there for the following video.
The 2wd IH656 is about a 6000# tractor running a pair of Aquiline Studded chains the tires are not loaded and she has no ballast on her,
I'm not sure which Magnum they used I think it was the 7120 about 18,000#to 20,000# as she sits.
The little 656 had a hard time just getting the magnum rolling on the ice but when she got it going those two chained tires did more then the 4 radials with diff locks engaged did.
The chains on the 656 are this type Branson chains.jpg

I know those chains are good as I have them on 2 tractors but it is still pretty amazing when you think about how little weight is on those compared to the weight of the big tractor in 4WD.

Yes, that little tractor has to bring a loaded feed wagon down a preety good slope to take it into the old cow barn to feed one group of steers every day.
It is simply amazing the grip it gets with those studded chains to stay in control with a good load behind her.
The video is just because it does such a good job, and we have talked for several years how much traction we get with those chains compared to bare rubber.
I wish I had been feeling better to be over at the farm that day.
I went over the next day and spread a load of sand on the roadways, she couldn't win the pull now.

Cool video.
6000 lbs versus 18,000lbs is pretty impressive.

A testimony to chains, and absence of traction on ice without them.

Note too, hooking chain with an uphill/downhill bias makes a difference on who gets increased weight (and improved rear traction) and who loses weight (decreasing traction on rear) as tension increases in chain.
..but a good indication of how much (or little) force required to pull a 7120 on ice is the 656 kept her front end down even with a high hitch.
