It all depends on where the contact is made, voltage, and current. DC contracts muscles. If a hand closes on a DC source, the only way to free it might be to kill power to the circuit. A known hazard with the railroad industry where 64V and up DC is common.

I thought DC had shocking hazards associated with it too so I'm glad you brought it up. Maybe it is not the damp/wet ground welding fix others indicate. I haven't welded DC since college. I liked it a lot but when my wife gave me the AC box 25 years ago for a present I didn't complain though I'd been eyeballing an AC/DC unit at the time. I thought I may wear it out by now (so I could upgrade) but nope, still running strong.
