I have Pioneer quick couplers for my FEL on my tractor. One of them has started to drip while coupled or uncoupled. Are there o rings that could be replaced

Drips while coupled, yes. There is a oring that should be sealing in the fluid that can be replaced (IIRC Tractor Supply carries them). Uncoupled, I dont know. Having that issue with our L3830, but havent gotten around to looking at it yet.

A Pioneer dealer can get the repair kits for you.

Some people use factory repair kit for their couplers, and others try and match up o-ring sizes from anywhere.

Close enough is good enough for some people.

My JD 5520 leaked bad ... I replaced the o rings and they still leaked and I mean BAD ... when I got to really investigating there was also a flat "gasket" type washer in with the o ring. I was putting a new o ring in that was actually to small ... once I got that dang little washer deal out the next size o ring fit and all the leaks stopped. May not be the case for you ... just wanted to mention it.

I would venture to say that if one wants and knows how to, that the OEM seals can be replaced with FAR BETTER seals than what is used by the OEM. So in some cases, OEM is not good enough. ;)

It is hard to believe that one can do better than the manufacturer with parts for the products they made or had made. I am sure they measured correctly and selected the material for the item, and tested the product.

This guessing game or this looks good enough may get you through the short term, but the exact replacement is the way to go.

Sure a quick trip to the hardware store might put the tool back in operation, and may even work for several more days, weeks, months or years.

The next someone that has to replace that same item and measures what you installed may get it right also or not.

I also short cut sometimes when things have to get done.

I have tried this, and frequently, it is hard to find the correct O-ring. Also, I have sometimes found wear on the male end where it meets the O-ring. Yes, they can be repaired, but my results have been poor overall. High quality new ones have suited me the best.

Edit: Almost forgot...when I buy new, I buy quality name brands and I always buy a spare coupler (male and female) so in the event of trouble, I can fix the immediate problem, and have time to attempt repair/replacement without significant downtime.

Bill, I'm not sure what loader you have. Is it New Holland? If it is, your dealer will have o-rings and the teflon backup ring for your QCs. The price is ridiculously expensive, but it will take the guesswork out of replacement. I think I paid around $2 for a single o-ring, but that is because of individual product packaging and such. Here is a link to the o-ring for my FEL connectors at messicks.com.

I am not saying to short cut anything, but I guarantee that a better product can almost always be found than what the OEM uses.

The pintle type Pioneer QCs (4050-3P and 4010-3P) on my Mahindra 5525 started to leak badly after a few years. I replaced them with the equivalent ball-type Pioneers which are supposed to be better. We'll see.

No argument here. Everybody does what they want to anyway. Just not knowing.

How many people would know this.

Repair Kits
Part number Coupling
Viton type
FF10173-06 Male
FF10174-06 Female

Seal Elastomer Data*
application Max. operation
Seal elastomer Specification temperature Range
Buna-N none -40°F to +250°F
(-40°C to +121°C)
Neoprene none -65°F to +212°F
(-54°C to +100°C)
EPR (Ethylene none -65°C to +300°F
Propylene Rubber) (-54°C to +149°C)
Viton MIL-R-25897 -15°F to +400°F
(-29°C to +204°C)

Most of the repair o-rings appear to be Viton.

Just saying.

There are people that would say , don't matter at all.

I just would not want other people getting an o-ring from the hardware, and saying it is as good as new and charging me same price as the original product.
