I hate to get off track with this thread but I was wondering why, the first line of each thread where it says "Are the center 4" X 6" posts load bearing?" ok in some of the posts and look like Arabic in others.

I recently purchased property that came with a 36�60 pole barn which has ten 12�12 stalls. There are 4肺 6 poles near the center of the barn at each one of the stalls. The prior owners had horses several years ago but I do not plan on having horses so I would like to open up the center area to be able to store equipment (tractor, SxS etc). I plan on removing the walls of the first 6 stalls but would also like to remove the center poles if they are not load bearing. This would give me more maneuverability with moving equipment in and out.

Any idea if the poles in the center of the barn are load bearing?

The designer of those "trusses" should go to jail for malfeasance!
Those "trusses" are absolutely not safe, for your snow load in E. Tennessee.
Actually, the entire frame of that "building" is a POS !

btw, notching rafter tails into uprights does zero to prevent walls from spreading.

His resembles a tail bearing truss with extra long tails.

Did you look to see if any permits were pulled and plans submitted of the original design? Maybe the builder info as well.

Did I read the span right, 36 feet?

My 42' 'trusses' are modified queen type vs '3 pieces'. I also have plenty of diagonal bracing for wind load.

There are signs of water damage in numerous place that roof is leaking, insulation is going to make it hard to find. Leaking around fan

Those rafters need some bolts or hurricane straps to keep them on the uprights

I add a bottom cord and some Truss webs, with strong plates screwed on. Todays impact drivers will let sink some deep screws'

It will take a fair amount of money to save that barn, check that stained wood with ice pick, it may be to late in some spots.
