I know some of the compact tractors like Kioti NX have these, just wondering if there are any benefits other than accessibility for repairs? How often do these cylinders require repair anyway?

I think that what you will find, is that for each manufacturer, the tractors that have the external 3pt lift cylinders have a higher lift capacity than those with the internal cylinders in their lineup. I'm pretty sure that is uniform from manufacturer to manufacturer. ;)

Also external cylinders makes it very easy to hook up a accumulator and a suspension system for the 3 pt when roading the tractor.

Antonio Carraro offers this option from factory since they use external cylinders. A simple accumulator with a shut off valve.

Should something go wrong with internal parts associated with rockshafts, the tractor may have to be split for repair.

Nice not to have body parts around external parts of rockshaft when connecting implements.

Perhaps a slightly more precise control with external hydraulic cylinders relative to rockshafts.

(My rockshaft experience is from operating Deere economy tractors; hydraulic cylinders with Kubota.)

Kubota Grand L = hydraulic cylinders. Kubota MX = rockshafts

Every mechanical direction change denigrates lifting power power at the Lower Links.

Not really. Tractor manufacturers made it so the top housing of the rear transmission case, holds all the rockshaft parts, including cylinder and valving associated with it.

So the tractor doesn't really need to be split. Some tractors even have a cover for the rockshaft cylinder under the seat that allow you to pull the cylinder out without taking anything else apart to change the seals.

Most smaller tractors that have an internal cylinder only offer 1 cylinder. External have 2.

I suppose that external cylinders would also make it easier to offer a down pressure option on the 3PH. I notice that some ag tractors have plumbed ports at both ends but I'm not sure that makes for down pressure capability. Perhaps its just plumbing the breather back to the reservoir?

I think you'll find those with external cylinders still have one inside. Normally the external cylinders are for lift capacity increase, not to replace inside ones.

Check 3pt lift ratings, get a tractor that will lift what you want, external cylinders or not.

Toolcat 5610 runs one external double acting cylinder to raise/lower the 3pt. It does not have down pressure because the rockarm pivot design has the cyl only able to raise. It still floats like most other tractor 3pt.

I think external might be easeir and cheaper to repair. On the other hand, the seals are exposed to the dirty outside world.
