Beyond that, my 92 years old mother is one of those pleasures that not many get to enjoy. Not spending Christmas with her would make the whole season dull.
.
That right there is "Gold" Every year my wife feels sad for the elderly that live where she work's, around 40% or so, don't get visitors over the holidays. Even though she is busy as a ADON, she still does Christmas crafts for the residents that are interested in making things, they have a Christmas dinner a week early and invite residents family members, and the kids from our church go there to sing Christmas songs.
When our kids where young, we too did the Christmas thing in a bigger way. For me a real tree, fireplace and nice meal and the family is enough. Like Bird, I had to work most Holidays for years in LE, so Holidays where usually early for us.
My wife on the other hand likes to decorate big time, like 10 boxes of stuff, but that too has deminished since only a daughter is left at home. She actually gave 6 boxes of decorations to the middle son YEAH!!
