In my garage I have 20 ton air/hydraulic jack given to me because it didn't work I spent like $10 on one of those universal oring kits fixed it. My 40 ton press same thing. With my 1" impact one I paid $1200 for the other this guy never oiled till it siezed so he gave it to me and I took it apart soaked in my 5 gallon bucket of marvel mystery oil and bam works great .

When I was in the US Navy, I cannot tell you how many times I've had this conversation:

Question to me: What do you do?

Answer: I'm an electronics technician and work on guided missle radar.

Question to me: Do you fix TVs?

Answer: No, but I enjoy watching them from time-to-time.:D

Fast forward to the 80s and 90s and change the question to, "Do you fix computers?" I can honestly say that I did fix a few for people and discovered that a $25 repair meant that I was obligated for the rest of my life as their unpaid computer expert. I quickly learned the value of "I don't know" as the response to all these kinds of questions.

I have never purchased a used vehicle or trailer that the brakes didn't need fixing.
seems the idea of pulling a wheel to check brakes has become something forgotten.
Last week was given a vice for shop that had set outside until rusty so was thrown away. all it took was a wash with diesel and some grease to the threads and now bolted to my shop bench working as new.
Lawn mower start solenoid wasn't working loosened the top and water had caused the plunger to stick. cleanned and replaced the cap now repaired.

Yesterday was asked ot check a alt. on tractor because battery not charging. reconnected the wire to terminal.
In a barber shop with mechanic sitting waiting for his turn . barber asked it I repaired my cars told him could purchase and install replacement parts cheaper than pointing toward the mechanic could fix the same thing. I was joking he got mad at the comment.
He knew I take my wifes car to the dealer shop for repair because if something goes wrong.
I'm not to be blamed.

I regularly troll on trash day in the village and find amazing and valuable things, last week I picked up a toro snowblower from the curb that only needed the pull cord restrung, it still had good fuel in it and fired right up. I'm always on the lookout for moving vans as well, a lot of people are apartmenting in the bad economy and they leave a lot of valuable tools and things at the curb.
