Nope, you'll need to roll it.

In the absence of a roller, I'd roll it with my car/truck after attempting to mash it while spreading it. Bald overinflated tires would be good. Um, is this "hot" mix or "cold" mix (aka road mix, patch mix)? Cold mix is good, for your situation, hot mix could be a nightmare.

I agree.. 450-300' hot asphalt is going to be a pain to work. if it was a small area you could loop and tamp it.. on a large area.. a roller is needed. Trying to roll with a tire is going to make an ugly rutted mess that will setup black and hard...

I too had explored this option, however after researching several web sites it became apparent that there is a potential health hazard if it is not installed and sealed properly. In that the fines can be blown in the wind, or be introduced into the water table.

I just sat my Mother-in-Law on a toyota hood and dragged her her back & forth. If you're interested she'll work for several buckets of KFC.
