Just getting used to removing and installing the 48 backhoe on my 4410. I was removing the 48 and had a bit of an issue getting the 3pt to lift the 48 high enough to remove the pins. I tried again and it came right off.

The service person dropping off the 4410 showed me an adjustment that sets the max lift height of the 3pt before it goes into relief. He said he adjusted it a bit while mounting the 48. I read about this adjustment on the CD tech manual I ordered with the 4410.

I was remounting the 48 this weekend and it would not lift high enough to get the pins in. I stopped at that point and decided to look into the matter a bit more.

Service said to call if there were any issues and I plan to talk with them about it. The tech manual explains how to set the lift height before relief kicks in. Doesn't seem real hard to do. I think I saw a prior post before about someone having this issue?

I'm wondering if the lower limit is changed if you change the max height? Also, wonder if one could damage something if you set the height to high? Seems service was trying to set it so it would just get the 48 high enough. There must be some concern about setting this too high?

I have a 47 BH on my 4310 and I would assume the attachment points are the same. Mine simply will not come off or go on with the 3pt lift arms alone. They just do not come up high enough. Here is a "trick" that they showed me at the dealership.
- Raise the 3pt lift arms as high as you can.
- Shut of the tractor and swap the hyd. hoses to the BH
****IMPORTANT NOTE*** NEVER START THE TRACTOR WITHOUT HAVING THE HYD. HOSES HOOKED UP TO THE BH OR THE POWER BEYOND CONNECTIONS. Your hyd. pump will be history if that oil does not have a place to go!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
- Start the tractor and lower the BH stabilzer arms to GENTLY lift the BH until the pins are loose. You can do this one side at a time. Slide the pins out and slowly raise the stabilizer arm to place the load back on the 3pt lift arms.
- Shutdown the tractor and swap the hyd. hoses back to the power beyond kit
- Now you can lower the BH to the ground and remove

This also works putting it back on, just the reverse order. It takes a little practice and you have to swap the hoses, but it works well for me.

This does not really answer your question about the relief setting, but it is an alternative method.

I have the 47 and have had no problems as of yet getting it high enough with the 3PT. Where is the adjustments you mentioned for setting the max lift? It may be just a matter of time before others run into the same problem. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I attached a sketch from the JD parts pages for my 4410. It shows the rockshaft control. My tech manual points to item 15 in the sketch to adjust the max height of the 3pt arms.

From what I have read that is a position control arm. Once the 3pt arms reach a certain height the control arm puts the 3pt into relief so it can not go any higher.

I needed to get a job done last evening and I found another solution. I used the 3pt to raise the hoe as high as it would go. It was close but the pins would not go in. I used my floor jack under the hoe to raise it enough to push the pins in. Real quick solution.

I might try and adjust that control arm and see if I can get it to lift a bit higher. If I recall correctly from the tech manual you need to lengthen the rod to increase the height.

I just took my 47 backhoe off my 4200 last night without any problems like you described.

If the hitch lifts anywhere near the proper height there is an easier way to get the pins in than messing around with the stabilizers or a floor jack. The hoe has adjustable hooks called latch plates where the 3ph arms engage to lift the hoe. Loosen up the bolts that hold the plates and slide them in the desired direction and retighten the bolts. If the plates are adjusted correctly the holes for the pins will be properly aligned when the hitch is all the way up. On my 4300 I can push the pins in with one finger when installing the hoe.

I agree with MJB. The first time I tried to take the BH off I ran into the same problem described above... I adjusted the plates (lowered them so the rockshaft engaged them sooner) and the BH came off as designed. Putting it back on was no problem either.

Adjusting the plates sounds like a good idea. I will take a look at that. Thanks for the advice!

My 48 hoe wouldn't go in even with those little plates adjusted all the way. I hardly ever took the backhoe off, and when I did I just used the stabilizers to give me the required lift. It was a PIA sometimes, I never though of just using a floor jack...
