I can't seem to get two of my FEL hoses to connect to the tractor. Almost like there is too much pressure in the line. I pull, tug, and even tried yelling at them. Nothing seems to work. Two of the hoses go on fine. Everything is color coded and I have done this a dozen times with no problem. What is going on?? JD4600 w/460 loader.....thanks

They must be lined up and the collar pulled all the back and the pressure relieved by moving the joystick in both (4)directions a few times and they must be lined up. And never ever use harsh language you will hurt their feelings. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifLining them up streigh is usually my problem.

Dahammer,
You could have excessive pressure in the FEL. The pressure increase can be caused by settling or a temperature change (warmer now than when you disconnected). The best way I have found to relieve the pressure is to cover the male end of the FEL coupling with a rag and then push the pin on the loader hose coupling against the tractor frame, hard. The pin will depress and the pressure will release and a small amount of hydralic fluid will escape into the rag. Then it should be easy to reconnect.

I agree with Bill. Thought I'd go crazy at first with the connections until a neighbor taught me the same trick; now, no problem. Just make sure you keep the rag over the end when the pin is depressed and ALWAYS wear safety glasses -- I have top and tilt and once a connector came loose and squirted fluid under pressure around my face as I was looking back....

This works for me - with the engine off of course.

Thanks everyone, a gentle tap on the end relieved the pressure and it hooked up fine!

LouG and prosperity are on it. Hydraulic systems employ an accumulator which is, in effect, a small pressure tank. This is necessitated by the fact that fluid is incompressible- the accumulator is needed to maintain proper pressure in the system. This pressure must be bled off by operating the controls, or by jacking the steering wheel back and forth. This is assuming the problem is on the tractor side, which it usually is; if it's on the implement side, you'll have to resort to the rag and wooden block or plastic hammer method.
