How do you like it? Approximately how many acres do you mow and how long does it take??

Would you have prefered the 62" mmm?

I am still trying to decide between the two, is the extra money worth getting the 62c??

Thanks for your input.

When I bought my first 62" deck and had recovered from the sticker shock I wished I had switched to the 62" years earlier. I mow about 4 acres that takes about 4 hours but I have 40 trees in the yard and a 600' wind break with about 140 young trees in it.

I bought the 54". I have a lot of trees, and few fence gates to get through. I mow a few acres, and leave the rest go wild. I bought the 54" thinking it would be better around the trees, I hind site that was probably an error. The 62" gives you a more width and I think would actually have worked better at some of the tight spots around trees. I could have built the fence gates larger. Spend the money on the larger deck.

Hi,

I have a 54 on a 4010 and cut maybe 1.5-2 acres (never measured) and have many obstacles to mow around plus slopes. Typically it takes me just over 1.5 hours to cut. Generally speaking, I'm happy with it and it does a great job.

However, there are times when I would really like to have the 60 inch deck because is reaches our farther from the tractor. For example, I have a stream running through where I cut and it's about a foot drop in most places from the edge to the water. I want to cut as close to the edge as I can yet keep the tractor away from the edge. So the extra several inches sticking out the side would be nice for this. I think it will also provide a nicer arc in the turns because I think you pick up most of the extra width on the left side, opposite the discharge. Not sure yet on this part.

Decks are hard to find used and I couldn't stomach the $2400 that the dealer wanted for a new deck (compared to $1800 I could have paid when I bought my tractor). I guess most people who buy a deck keep it. I've spent the last year hunting for a good used deck at a reasonable price and finally found one just the other day. I'm anxious to get it hooked up to see if the advantages are going to be as I hope.

If $ is tight, the 54 will do the job. If you can swing it, I'd say spend the extra up front and get the bigger deck. Also, the bigger deck heavier gauge steel and just an all together beefier piece of equipment.
Hope this helps,
Cheers

I have the 62MMM on my 2305 and love how it cuts. I used to cut the yard (under 2 acres) with a JDLX280 with a 42in deck. The 62MMM get in all the spots the little 42in did. Also cutting around 14 large trees and flower beds. The 54in would work better if your ground is uneven. The larger the deck you seem to notice all the grading problems. Get the 62 and fix you yard to fit the deck.

I got the 54" because I thought it would be better in my smaller yard (~1 acre lawn) and getting between tree and sidewalk. It cuts wonderfully, but what I've since learned is that it's too short to reach out. I've already broke a signal light on the ROPS trying to get further under the backyard deck. I also bonged the satellite dish with the ROPS in an effort to not trim so much. (Good thing the dish didn't break, I wouldn't have access to TractorNet any more!)

I am not in the market for a bigger deck, but if I had the chance I'd get a 62" just for the reach away from the tractor. If it scalps somewhere, grade that part of the yard down, like Mayor said.
