bx 1850 kubota
I have plowed my lane for seven years with a atv. Just recently purchased a
new BX1850 & sold the atv. I"m beginning to regret getting rid of the atv. I am using a rear mounted blade for moving snow. Every time it snows I cringe. It is very fustrating and time consuming, it now takes me longer to do the task & it looks like crap. Need suggestions. I'm seriously considering dealing the BX on a atv.

Why not purchased the factory Kubota front blade with quick hitch? I use the factory Kubota front blade on my b3030 and it does an excellent job on both tar and gravel.

It will take some practice getting use to the rear blade.
I'd used one of our 4-wheelers and a 4' front plow blade for 3 years before I bought my compact, but I still have the the 4-wheelers and the blade. The blade is on a 4-wheeler right now, but my primary snow removal tool is the loader/rearblade on the compact, as the 4-wheeler cannot move large banks of snow. The compact is much more versatile for year-round chores. Did you by the bx1850 just for snow? I assume you are at least mowing with it. I'd consider a front blade of better yet a snow blower attachment

KEEP THE TRACTOR ! If your back blade is not working for you, you'll need to find the attachment that does. Many here use a simple back blade for snow and have good results. I like the suggestion of getting the factory front blade with quick hitch. I know front snowblowers are expensive, but i have one and love it. There are lots of options out there for you....... a few hours of reading here (all forums, not just Kubota) should fill you with ideas.

P.S. I've had great luck buying used impliments on Craigslist or other classifieds. You can save alot compared to buying new @ your local Kubota dealer.

Using a rear blade to move snow is like having a screen door in a submarine. Did you have a rear blade on your ATV? I think not so why do you have one on your 1850? Get a blade for the front.

Absolutely,
Jadd if you are near lower Lake Michigan, check this out. I don't no for sure if a bx1850 will handle a 5' blower, but it's worth a look. decent blower, great price.

The front blade is out of the question as the BX does not have the optional front control value. The front control value is not a dealer installed option, but a factory install. Played around today w/ the adjustable link,it was seized. Plows a little better.

We feel your pain.... I too had troubles at first with a rear blade, but don't fret. Try turning the blade backwards, so you are pushing the snow as you back. Use about a 30 degree angle, too much will tend to move the tractor in deep snow. After moving the majority of the snow, drop the blade, go forward, and dress it up.. I did this for years, and it helped me get used to going backwards. It is possible to leave the blade facing forwards, but you can't get close to anything... Don't go too fast, keep your hand on the 3 point lever, and your foot near the clutch!! KEEP THE TRACTOR!!! You could use a rear hydraulic valve and run hoses to the front for the blade....

Jadd,

I made the same switch this year after getting frustrated with the ATV's lack of ability in deep snow. It worked great when I had about 6-7" or less. It especially had trouble moving the snowbanks. The first time I plowed with my B7510 and rear blade I was frustrated too and thought it didn't work as well. Then I tried to level out the blade and after I got it pretty close the results have been MUCH better. We had over 40" of snow in December so I got pretty good at it. Plow backward when the snow is deep to get rid of the majority then angle the blade and go forward. It works pretty good. When the snow banks get too high, just move them back by reversing the blade and back up. It takes me less time to do the job with the tractor and the area I open up is much larger because the tractor is better for this task. I also have a loader to assist with moving the large snow banks and make about 5-6' high piles. You should keep the tractor just make it work for you.

I find the front end very light, and I loose the ability to steer with the blade up. I am seaching for front suitcase weights and front steer axle chains are
out of the question due to the clearance between the tire & tire rod ends.
Is there a rear blade available that does not extend so far out back, that it changes the tractors center of gravity.
