I attended the Alex Lyon and son (www.lyonauction.com) auction in Kissimmee today to purchase a box blade. I bid on and won a 6 foot "AMCO" box blade. It has a reversible blade and 6 quick adjust scarifiers. It appears to be new and ruggedly built. Has anybody seen, heard of or know about this brand? It seems to be more ruggedly constructed than the KK BB's I've seen at TSC.

I paid $175.00 so I'm pretty happy with that

A photo is attached.

Rick nice buy! I have personally never heard of a Amco but for that kind of money I would have picked one up myself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did somebody cut out their own stencil and spray paint a name on the blade ???

Looks that way.... Maybe they are imported by the load and just branded as " AMCO".

Hey for $ 175...how can you go wrong /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Two different styles of hitch and tine holder. One is a bolted hitch with an open strap style tine holder, the other is a welded hitch and welded box style tine holder. Which did you get?

It's the welded hitch unit (centered in photograph). The tines (6) have a quick release type pin which holds them in place as opposed to removing a bolt for re-adjustment. The two "backstraps" from the top link to the back of the blade were made of 2 pieces of angled steel welded together to form the angle. As you have pointed out, the hitch cannot be unbolted and folded for shipping. I can't remember if The AMCO logo is painted or is a decal. I'll check Wednesday when I pick it up. Either way, the logo is sad /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The box on the right side of the photo (AMCO) is a four footer. The two on the left side of the photo were not branded and were of a different design. They were 6 feet with 5 tines.

I obviously had a choice on which unit to bid on. The AMCO appeared more ruggedly built...But I'm no engineer. What do you think Jim?

There were some issues with the open strap tine holder, ala DHE also known as Harp, and most mfr's have learned from those mistakes and have gone the route of the welded box tineholder for added strength. Not much difference strengthwise to the welded or bolted hitch. It is cheaper to manufacture the welded hitch, but much of that savings is lost to increased shipping costs as you noticed. Of course, in a train wreck situation it is easier to repair a bolted hitch since the hitch can be disassembled and fixed or new parts bolted back on. If the choice is the welded hitch to get the welded box tineholder, you did well to go with that. In other words, in my opinion, the welded box tineholder benefits outweigh by far the bolted hitch advantages.

JimMc you know Daryl Harp to. Hes not too far from us and we buy a few things from him. Theres also another manufacturer and dealer also in Redbay Alabama that sells similar equipment. I think AMVO made alot of sugar cane equipment in southern MS. Ive worked on a few sugar cane plows for them.

Unless you are going to beat the heck out of it.. it looks halfway decent for the price. ( This coming from a buy that found a beater old box for 100 bucks in someones front yard.)
I had to torch and weld on mine a bit.. but it drags the clay and pushes the maneuer up fine. I only have 1 scarfier tooth for it.. but it came in hande when scratching out a guide line to dig a small trench for a water pipe to my back pasture..

I think anyone who hangs around this business a while becomes familiar with DHE, they have become sort of a fixture in the industry.
