Interesting cranky jacks used to move big logs in the first part.

Those old logging/mining narrow-gauge railways are still running here in Aus, but for tourists now.

Here in Tassie we've got this route: West Coast Wilderness Railway | History that moves you

Victoria has the "Puffing Billy" excursions. There's even an annual race between runners and the train (loaded with passengers) to the top of somewhere. A Victorian native will have to pipe up about that.

Ta, Bruce!

Thanks for the videos guys, enjoyed them. What were the ropes that the men were pulling along side the logs on the train as they went along. The only thing I can think of is breaks but can't figure it out. Ed

Starting around 3:40 in the video. Yeah, it looks like a block and tackle was attached to a brake lever on each set of trucks. They had to work them going downhill.

Every time I watch a movie set in Australia, I see some mountains, desert, swamp, a little green grass, desert, shrub brush, couple trees for scenery, desert and some Aborigines walking around in the desert, so where did these big logs come from, was this video taken back when the dinosaurs walked the earth............
