I am in the process of updating my log splitter and have a question. Can the auto-cycle valve that is popular on some log splitters be operated so as to function like a normal pressure detent on return valve. It would be nice to have the option of normal operation or auto-cycle.

I am in the process of building my splitter with such options. It is controlled by a D05 Electric Valve. There are a host of limit switches and a bunch of relay logic. Basically, you push a button and the splitter cycles. People (on here) have scolded me about the dangers, but that's what I want. There will be safety stop switches on the unit. I may send you a picture of what I have so far, later.

:Using the autocycle valve, you push both levers and then the log splitter will split the wood and retract and then return the valve to neutral.

This is as far as I've gotten. More work then I figured on! The beauty is, once the electric valve is in, your options are limitless. Maybe some day, even direct brain interface! lol

The last pic is the control console. The splitter behaves normally using the joystick. The multi position switch allows you to set the position to which the ram returns to several presets for shorter wood.

Like JJ said you use both for full auto function or you can use just 1 with the auto return detent for manual operation. If you are using full auto just be sure you are the only one using it, that way it is your fingers/hand and not somebody else's. I did not even use a auto return on my splitters, just for this reason. But I did make the splitter very fast and the valve was just above the pusher when retracted on a pad. The second or so that would have been saved with the auto return was not a issue at all. Most splits were only 16" long or so. So the ram was not fully returned anyway. CJ
