I have 2 eu2000i generators and I started putting together a extended run fuel tank several years ago but never got around to getting it running correctly. The issue was that I tried to convert a regular fuel cap and it was not air tight so the generator would not pull fuel from the boat tank.. I am going to buy some of the already make fuel caps that are threaded for they fittings.

I am going to get back onto that and have a few questions..

1) Originally i used 3/8" clear PVC tubing - Should I use a rubber gas line or would that be OK?

2) I have a friend that has a Pex tool for using the Stainless Steel clamps (NOT the copper rings type).. My plan was to use small screw clamps for my fittings, BUT would this PEX clamper work on the fuel lines for this project?

thanks

On my generator, I used a boat style fuel line with the quick connect and the primer bulb. makes it easy to switch tanks.

Hope this helps.

I am going to use the boat style connectors (which I have a set for a single setup), but I want/need a dual setup. I havent found any of the boat fuel line without the connections locally yet.. :-(

BTW - do you need the primer bulb? Or will the eu's pull the fuel without it?

Sometimes I feel really stupid..

did you know that they have places like AutoZone and Advance Auto that sell 3/8" ID fuel line?? what a novel idea, selling automotive related items in an auto parts store... I had been looking for 'fuel line' at Lowes and walmart...

So, now I am the proud owner of enough fuel line to make my extend-a-tank.. BUT I have decided to make 2 tanks instead of one with dual connections.

A 3 gallon boat tank is $40 at walmart and a 6 gal is $50.. a 5 gallon fuel can is about $20.. Does anyone see 'issues' with taking a 5 gallon can, modifying the cap to hold either a boat connector with a 3/8" barb on the inside that you add a 'pickup tube' that will go to the bottom of the gas can? I think I would have to leave the cap slightly loose for it to vent though

thanks

I was in the garage putting together my extended run tank (still waiting on the generator caps though) and found out something interesting..

A Honda OEM eu gas cap has the same threads as a Blitz 5 gallon and 2 gallon gas can... By adding a male boat connection to the outside of the cap and screwing a barb to the inside (with a fuel line long enough to reach the bottom of the can) I could use any Blitz can I have as my extended tank by just switching the cap around

My one concern is would I need to drill a hole in the gas can cap so it would vent correctly now that all modern gas can dont have vents

thoughts, suggestions or ideas
