Anyone ever put AW 46 hydraulic oil in an M5040 or other M--40 tractor? I've been told it's better than SuperUDT in cold climates where it easily reaches -20F, often lower.

I have also been told that AW 46 hydraulic oil is only for Kubota's excavators, not tractor transmissions. If I do use it, apparently I'll end up with premature bearing failure.

Also, any thoughts on SuperUDT vs. 80w90 gear oil for the front axle and front differential?

This probably won't help, but I used AW46 in my jinma, it was a big mistake. I now use AW32, no more troubles.

Colby Forest not sure if it was a bad batch or what but my hydraulics squealed like a pig being beat with a whip in cold weather. I switched over to AW32 from advance auto and have not had a problem since.

So not use AW 46 in a common sump system like yours. It does not contain the EP (extreme pressure) additives needed. Its a hydro fluid only.

Also a AW 46 is roughly the same consistency as a 20W oil.

AW32 is about like a 10W oil.

UTF flow better than both cold.

Here is a comparison a guy did over on CTOA. Its a site for Chinese tractors but oil is oil and will give you a good idea what the flow rates are like. The guy who did it is a genius when it comes to all things mechanical, kind of like Rob and Soundguy around here.

Thanks Diamondpilot, been a while since I've seen that clip{forgot about it}, Bob does seem to now his stuff. I figured mine using the AW32 worked better because of the lighter weight. The only thing I'd be concerned about is the UTF being to light weight, when it gets heated up? I'll have to check it to it more. Again great clip :)

If your tractor is still under warranty I would stick with what Kunota requires.

Thanks for the info guys. The reason I ask the question is, for one, the Kubota website lists AW46 under hydraulic oils when I do the parts look-up for M5040. Of course under transmission it says Super UDT. For two, the guy who told me to use AW46, is supposed to know what he's talking about. But, the guy who told me not to is also supposed to know what he's talking about. -- BTW, UDT=UTF?
